The Ultimate Hollywood Coffee Crawl: 9 Walkable Stops in Los Angeles

Some cities you crawl by bar. Los Angeles, you crawl by café — and the stretch of Melrose Avenue running from West Hollywood into Hollywood is the best place in the city to do it. Flat, walkable, packed with genuinely great coffee within a few blocks of each other. If you're planning a coffee crawl in Los Angeles, this is the route: nine stops, about two and a half miles, one very caffeinated afternoon.

Your coffee crawl in Los Angeles: the route

The rules of a good crawl: order smalls, share everything, and pace yourself — this is a marathon disguised as a stroll. Start around 9am, budget four to five hours, and wear the comfortable shoes. West to east, here's the walk.

Stop 1: Community Goods — 8687 Melrose Ave (West Hollywood)

Start with us, obviously. The Matcha Einspänner to go — vivid green matcha under cold cream in a cup made for walking. Our Korean head barista's signature is the strongest opening move on this route, and you'll want the photo before the line builds.

Stop 2: Urth Caffé — 8565 Melrose Ave

Two blocks east, the Melrose institution. Split a Spanish latte and browse the pastry case — this is the fuel stop, the one with real food if the group needs it. The Entourage-famous room is worth sitting in for ten minutes even on a crawl.

Stop 3: Alfred Coffee at Glossier Alley — 8509 Melrose Ave

Duck through the pink gates for the Glossier Pink Latte. Yes, it's a photo stop. No, we're not sorry. Small size, drink it on the move — the next stop is close.

Stop 4: Carrera Cafe — 8251 Melrose Ave

The breather. Sunny patio, the iced pink chai the regulars love, a proper sit-down moment about forty minutes in. This is where crawls either find their rhythm or fall apart; the patio helps with the first one.

Stop 5: Established Today — 7707 Melrose Ave

Half record store, half café. Flip vinyl at the listening stations while splitting a banana latte — or the banana cream matcha, one of the best matcha drinks on this side of town. The music makes this the most fun ten minutes of the crawl.

Stop 6: Be Bright Coffee — 7311 Melrose Ave

The connoisseur's stop. U.S. Cold Brew Champion 2021, owner a U.S. Barista Champion — order the Vivid Cream Latte with brown sugar cold foam and taste what championship-level iced coffee actually means. By now you'll appreciate the precision.

Stop 7: Coffee for Sasquatch — 7020 Melrose Ave

The personality stop at the east end of the strip. The Liverpool latte or the apricot shaken espresso in the bright, Sasquatch-themed room — grab the chocolate croissant if anyone's flagging. You're almost done; this is the second wind.

Stop 8: Blue Bottle Coffee — 830 N Fairfax Ave

Turn north at Fairfax for the palate cleanser: the Iced NOLA, chicory cold brew that's smooth and spiced and completely different from everything you've had today. Minimalist, calm, quick — a reset before the finale.

Stop 9: Community Goods — 710 N Edinburgh Ave (Hollywood)

Head east to Edinburgh and finish where the brand lives twice: our Hollywood shop. End with something gentle — a hot matcha latte, whisked to order — and sit for a while. You've earned the chair.

The short version (only got 2 hours?)

Do stops 1, 4, 6, 7, and 9. You get the viral drink, the patio break, the champion's cup, the fun one, and the finale — the whole arc of the crawl in five stops and about a mile and a half.

Crawl survival tips

Share every drink — two sips each is the whole point. Alternate one caffeinated stop with one decaf or matcha stop; your 4pm self will thank you. Bring water (most of these shops will happily fill your bottle). And start early: Melrose gets crowded by noon, and half the charm of a crawl is beating the rush.

Quick answers

How long is the Hollywood coffee crawl? The full nine stops cover about 2.5 miles and take 4–5 hours at a tasting pace. The five-stop short version is about 1.5 miles and 2 hours.

Can you do this crawl on foot? Easily — it's flat the whole way, and every stop is within a few blocks of the last. That's the whole point.
