Cold foam is LA's favorite coffee accessory, and the city has strong opinions about it. Done right, it's a thick, pourable layer of sweetened cream that floats on iced coffee and melts into each sip — never stirred, never a lid of whipped cream. Done wrong, it's beige milk. The best cold foam in LA lives mostly in Korean-influenced cafés, where the cream-top game has been refined for nearly a decade, but there are excellent versions across the city. Here's where to get it.

8 Places for the Best Cold Foam LA Has to Offer
1. Community Goods — West Hollywood & Hollywood
Ours, and the one we'd put up against anyone's. The Einspänner Latte is double espresso under sea-salt cream with a cocoa dusting — the salt sharpens the coffee instead of just sweetening it. The Matcha Einspänner does the same trick with ceremonial-grade matcha. We whip the cream to that specific pourable thickness where it floats in a clean layer and slowly ribbons into the drink. Find us at 8687 Melrose Ave (West Hollywood) or 710 N Edinburgh Ave (Hollywood).
2. Maru Coffee — Los Feliz
The origin story. Korean roaster Maru was pouring its signature Creamtop — a long black crowned with sweet cream — back around 2016, arguably launching the whole LA cream-top era. Note: they discontinued the $3 cream-top add-on for other drinks, but the signature Creamtop itself remains. It's the purist's version: serious coffee, one perfect cream.
3. Cafe UPPER — Koreatown
Where cold foam gets playful. Cafe UPPER (300 S Hobart Blvd) does einspänners with taro and black sesame cream tops — the cream itself is flavored, tinted pastel, and thick enough to hold its shape. This is cold foam as dessert architecture, and the croffle on the side is mandatory.
4. Matsu Matcha — Koreatown
Proof that cold foam isn't just a coffee thing. Matsu's Triple Matcha comes with a cream top and matcha jelly — the foam softens matcha's grassy edge into something almost custardy. If you've only had foam on coffee, this is the version that converts you.

5. 3THYME Cafe — Koreatown
A K-town sleeper with a whole cream-top menu: iced americano with house vanilla cream and cocoa, a double matcha with vanilla cream and matcha powder, even a hojicha cream top. It's the kind of menu that rewards ordering one for the table and one for yourself.
6. Lee's Coffee House
The wildcard. Lee's does a banana cold foam — sweet, creamy, faintly nostalgic, like the milk left in a banana-cereal bowl but engineered by someone who knows coffee. It's the most fun foam on this list and the one your group chat will ask about.
7. HeyTea — Beverly Hills
The cheese-foam original. HeyTea's West Coast flagship brought the Chinese tea-shop classic — a tangy, salty cream-cheese foam over cold tea — to Beverly Hills. It's not coffee foam, but it belongs on any serious foam tour: the salt-fat-tea balance is the same principle, executed on tea instead.
8. Starbucks — Everywhere
Credit where it's due: Starbucks invented the mainstream cold-foam category and still does a reliable version. The salted caramel cream cold brew is the benchmark — widely available, consistent, and the reason half the city knows what cold foam is. Start here if you're foam-curious; graduate to the K-town spots when you're ready.

Cold Foam vs. Whipped Cream: What's the Difference?
Cold foam is frothed cold milk or cream — airy, pourable, designed to float and slowly merge into the drink. Whipped cream is denser and sits on top like a cap. An einspänner-style cream top splits the difference: thicker than standard cold foam, lighter than canned whipped cream, and you're not supposed to stir it — you sip the coffee through the cream.
Quick questions
What is cold foam made of? Usually heavy cream (sometimes with milk), lightly sweetened and frothed cold until it thickens enough to float. Korean-style cream tops often add a pinch of salt or flavorings like vanilla, taro, or black sesame.
Is cold foam very sweet? It can be, but the best versions balance sweetness against the coffee's bitterness — that's the whole point. If your foam turns the drink into dessert milk, the ratio was off.
Can I get cold foam on matcha? Absolutely — some of the best foam in the city is on matcha. Matsu Matcha's cream-topped Triple Matcha and our own Matcha Einspänner are the two to try first.
